Beginning on June 6th, 2pm and continuing on Monday the 13th, 20th & 27th.  Sessions - 2.5 hours.

Hi there ! I’m so excited to welcome you to my glorious studio for wheel throwing lessons. These courses have been designed with complete beginners in mind, but would also suit anyone looking for a refresher to throwing on the potters wheel. Over the course of four weeks you can expect to throw some simple vessels and even try your hand at trimming and glazing. We will be throwing with my favourite stoneware, which is lovely and smooth.

Week One - After we’ve all got to know each other a little I’ll demo in my wheel. I’ll show you how to centre, open the clay up and pull up the walls. Then it’s your turn to have a go!

Week Two -  This is your session to really get stuck in as you’ll be throwing as many pots as you like. I’ll be on hand to demo for you again to refresh your memory, guide and assist. Choose your best pots to be set aside to dry a little so they are ready for the session in week three.

Week Three - Your treasured creations will now be dry enough for the next step - trimming. Many a potter’s favourite part of the process you’ll be refining the shape of your pots by cutting away the excess clay with special tools. You can even have a go at adding a foot! This part is super fun and gives your pots a pro look. These pots will bisque fired ready for you in when you return in week four.

Week Four - Glazing! How exciting - your pots are ready to glaze ! This is where the magic happens. I’ll be focusing on beginner friendly paint on commercial glazes, but if you want to know about dipping and pouring let me know and I can cover that too!

This session starts on Monday afternoons at 2pm, and will finish up at 4:30. Please arrive a little early so you can grab a tea or coffee and get settled. Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty - I tend to wear a large shirt over my tops. You’ll want to remove any rings (I certainly do) and tie long hair back unless you want an interesting “do” when you leave.

Studio - the Studio is located at Granton Station, Edinburgh. You can park for free for THREE HOURS at the Morrisons car park across the road. The area is well served by Lothian Buses. When you book don’t forget to give me your email address, or even better - your phone number so I can get in touch.

Your finished pots will be glazed fired after your course finishes and will be ready to collect in around a week or so. You can collect directly from the studio or pick up at one of my markets at Stockbridge or the Grassmarket. Arrangements can be made at the end of the course.
